Different hardness testers include the Durometer A or the Shore A used for soft rubbers, the Asker C which is used sponge materials and the Durometer D which is used for the hard materials.

Reading of the scale: The tester is kept vertical and the needle is pressed in order to read the scale immediately.
The thickness of the test piece: The thickness of the test piece determines the hardness of the test piece.
Temperature is also related to the rubber hardness: If the temperature increases ten the hardness of the rubber decreases.
There can be deviations in the reading depending on the variations in the pressure strength, pressure speed, pressure angle and time.
